Agreement for Funding a Transportation Planning Project Signed

Board members of the Friends of the Tabor to Platte Rail to Trail on Thursday, July 20 in Wagner, South Dakota to sign the 'Agreement for Funding a Transportation Planning Project' with the SD Department of Transportation.

Next, the SD DoT will select a professional engineering firm to assess the feasibility of the 'Tabor to Platte Rail to Trail' proposal. This process will include gathering public input. Once completed, the study will be presented to the SD Railroad Authority (which manages the property for the state) and to the public.

Estimated cost for this study is $250,000. Funds for the study come from the Transportation Alternatives program, a US DoT program. The Friends group is responsible for an 18% match, or about $45,000. Board members discussed fundraising ideas.
